About ECUST

East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) is a leading comprehensive university located in Shanghai, China. Established in 1952, ECUST is renowned for its strength in chemical engineering, as well as its diverse academic disciplines, including engineering, science, business, and humanities. The university actively welcomes international students and offers a variety of degree programs in both Chinese and English.

Program Overview

ECUST provides a wide range of programs for international students at different academic levels:

  • Undergraduate Programs: Cover fields such as science, engineering, business, humanities, and arts. Both Chinese- and English-taught programs are available.
  • Graduate Programs: Include master’s and doctoral degrees with extensive research opportunities across multiple disciplines.

Scholarships & Application Deadlines

ECUST offers multiple scholarship opportunities for international students, including government-funded and university-specific scholarships.

1. ECUST President Scholarship
  • A Category (Full Scholarship):
    • Covers full tuition, on-campus accommodation, international student medical insurance, and a monthly stipend of 3,500 RMB.
    • Available for PhD students.
  • B Category (Partial Scholarship):
    • Covers full tuition and international student medical insurance.
    • Available for Master’s students.
2. ECUST Outstanding International Student Scholarship
  • Awarded annually to current students with excellent academic and extracurricular performance.
  • Includes comprehensive and single-category awards.
3. ECUST International Undergraduate Freshman Dean’s Scholarship
  • Aimed at outstanding new undergraduate students.
4. ECUST Chinese Language Student Scholarship
  • Supports international students studying Chinese at ECUST.
5. Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC – Type A)
  • Covers full tuition, accommodation, stipend, and medical insurance.
  • Apply through the Chinese embassy or designated authorities in your home country.
  • Application Deadline: Mid-November to late February (next year).
6. Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS – Type B)
  • Covers full or partial tuition.
  • Apply directly through ECUST.
  • Application Deadline: Mid-November to mid-April.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate Applicants:
    • Must hold a foreign passport and a high school diploma.
    • Language Requirements:
      • For Chinese-taught programs: HSK 4 or higher is required. Applicants who do not have an HSK certificate may enroll in a language course provided by the university to meet the language requirement.
      • For English-taught programs: IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 70 or higher is required.
  • Graduate Applicants:
    • Must hold a foreign passport and meet degree requirements (Bachelor’s for Master’s applicants, Master’s for PhD applicants).
    • Language Requirements:
      • For Chinese-taught programs: HSK 5 or higher is required. Applicants who do not possess an HSK certificate may enroll in a language course offered by the university to fulfill the language requirement.
      • For English-taught programs: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 or higher is required.

Application Procedure

  1. Online Application:
    • Register and submit your application on the ECUST International Student Service System.
  2. Submit Required Documents:
    • Passport copy
    • Academic transcripts and certificates
    • Language proficiency proof
    • Personal statement
    • Recommendation letters (for master’s and PhD applicants)
  3. Pay Application Fee:
    • 600 RMB, payable online or via bank transfer.
  4. Application Review & Admission Decision:
    • The university will assess applications and notify successful applicants.
